MY COLLARD GARDEN

MY COLLARD GARDEN.

Steps taken to plant a collard garden.

1. Prepare your main field for planting as the collards are directly planted in the main garden.

2. Make a shallow furrow/hole about 2 cm deep.

3. Scatter the seeds lightly in the furrow/holes.

4. Cover them lightly with some soil.

5. Sprinkle water on the covered furrow (do not pour, as this can wash away the seeds (since they are too small).

6. The seedlings should be able to come out in about 6 to 12 days.

7. Keep the garden free from weeds because they rob them of water and nutrients needed for healthy growth.

8. Uproot the weeds by hand or use a hoe to shallowly dig up the weeds (but take care not to damage the collard roots).

9. Collards are subject to some diseases, so if the plants have spots on the leaves you may need to spray, with a fungicide and pesticide to counter control the causes of the problem.
